DePaul Masters of Science Human-Computer Interaction Motion Graphic
Type In Motion, 2023
DePaul University
Jacob Goebel
In this class project, we were tasked with creating a motion typography piece to entice people to join a masters program chosen at random. The only restriction placed on us was the type itself.
I decided to use Helvetica Neue to give myself a blank slate to work from, and to let the motion of the piece along with the iconography guide the viewer through the project. Motion is an emerging way to communicate ideas, and grabs the attention of the viewer immediately. This is why I focused on the motion instead. The iconography communicates to things that are tackled within the major; coding, surveying, group work, and mind mapping.
In the process of creating this graphic, I storyboarded all the major moments first and let that guide my decisions moving forward. I focused on experimenting with motion, seeing all the ways I could push and pull the text to enhance audience engagement.
