In this class project, we were given a random major city in the US as well as a pre-existing event. Our instructions were simple; recreate this event in this new location, changing the identity to meet this new venue while keeping the core concept of the event the same. I was assigned the AIA Conference as the event, and Providence as the new location.
I used a primarily blue color palette due to Providence being a port city with a lot of nautical iconography throughout the city. The logo designs I came up with tried to blend the idea of the nautical theming with the identity of the AIA Conference, being based around architecture. After a few iterations, I landed on using an architecture compass blended with an anchor in order to communicate both of these themes. The event was renamed to the Providence River Architecture Conference, or PRAC for short which allowed me to create a tagline for the event; PRACtice makes perfect. The design choices on th website as well as the ID cards were inspired by previous materials used for the actual AIA Conference. Other iconography in the designs included a line grid and geometric patterns to give a subtle nod to the straight lines and geometric drawings used in architectural planning.
